A visit to the Power Plant is the most expected activity under Future Energy Scholarship Program of AES Mong Duong. This program has been implemented for the second year with objectives of students coming from Quang Ninh province and majoring in electric power at Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Electric Power University.
On 25 and 26 February, a 2-day visit to the power plant was organized with the participation of the scholarship winners and lecturers of the two universities. A detailed agenda was designed carefully by the Stakeholder Management team based on results of a short survey on the expectations and interested contents of the students and their lecturers including power plant’s safety procedure, environment protection, turbine and boiler operation and maintenance, controlling system, cooling water circulation, power generation- synchronization- transmission procedure and ash handling system.
After a short inspiring welcome speech by Kevin Pierce, Plant Manager, to share his experience and passion to work at a power plant, the students and lecturers were guided by the departments’ engineers to different areas so that they could see with their own eyes actual operation of all major system in the power plant. During the trip, many questions were raised by the students and were all answered and explained specifically by the engineers in charge and the managers.


“Through very open and friendly introductions and interpretations of the engineers, now I have quite comprehensive view of the Plant’s operation. It is very impressed to me that you follow very strict requirements on safety here and safety is always the first priority at the Plant. This is a really good chance for us to see how the knowledge we study at the university is applied in actual operation and learn about new technology being used at the Power Plant. I hope that I can become one of the members of AES’s big family in the future”, Duong Van Tuan, a student of Electric Power University happily shared after completing his visit to the Power Plant.
The trip left good impression not only to the students but also to the lecturers. Mr. Pham Van Tan, lecturer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said: “The site trip was really helpful to the students. The coordination work was great. The agenda was designed to focus on all the matters of the student’s interest and I believe they all have the answers for their questions. I was especially impressed by Mr. Kevin Pierce. He is not only a good Plant Manager but also a model of a friendly and exemplary manager that can inspire his people. We appreciated the Company for organizing the visit so well and hope that our students will be given more opportunities to visit and study at the power plant regarding different expertise. That would be very helpful to them to prepare for future career”.
The visit completed with strong commitments of the students to actively participate in the Company’s social activities to support local communities during their summer vacation.
