AES Vietnam President Meets with EVN Leadership to Advance Strategic Energy Projects
AES Mong Duong’s electricity generation for the first half of 2020 has reached over 4.9 billion kilowatt hours (kWh), exceeding the target of 4.7 billion kWh set by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) for the period by five percent. This result has been achieved thanks to strict measures implemented to guarantee the security of the electricity supply and the continuous efforts and strong operational performance by the AES Mong Duong team.
Speaking about this achievement, Mr. David Stone, CEO of AES Mong Duong, said: “The first half of 2020 has been challenging for Vietnam’s power production due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unfavorable meteorological conditions which specifically affects hydropower output. Yet, during this challenging period, we have been asked to run at high load by the local authority and surpassed the target. The achievement again is a proof of our operational excellence, and credits us as a strong and reliable operator in the country.”
The company’s achievements were also appreciated by local authorities and communities. In the last meeting with local officials in July 2020, Mr. Ha Van Cong, Head of Cam Hai commune, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province, said: “Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, AES Mong Duong were still able to surpass the production target. This has set the company aside as a pioneer among other electricity producers in Quang Ninh Province.”
According to the MOIT’s plan, in 2020, the plant’s electricity output is expected to be approximately 8.6 billion kWh. This target signifies an additional one billion kWh, representing a 13% increase in electricity output, compared to 2019.
“The target again proves that AES Mong Duong has become a trusted and credible partner in the energy sector and has the reliability to be able to produce electricity which is vitally needed for growth and economic stability in Vietnam,” said Mr. David Stone.
AES Mong Duong will continue to maintain the efficient operation of its two units to ensure electricity supply as planned in the last six months of 2020, as well as guarantee a continuous supply of energy for the country.
