Quang Ninh, 24 May 2023. AES Mong Duong organized a wrap-up ceremony for the second year and exchange the contract for the third year of the project ‘Supporting the Development of Biosecure Sow Production and Farming’ in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the People’s Committee of Cam Pha City, the Center for Agricultural Extension of Quang Ninh Province, the coordination units, participating households, and representatives of AES Mong Duong.
After two years of implementation, the project has achieved impressive outcomes, contributing to improving the livelihood of participating households. By the end of 2022, 300 piglets were born. The utilization of gas from biogas tanks for cooking and lighting has resulted in significant cost savings for the 16 households involved in the project. Over the course of one year, the participants have managed to save between VND48,000,000 and VND60,000,000 on gas expenses.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lap, Environment – Health – Safety Manager, AES Mong Duong, said: “We are very pleased with the positive results that the project has brought in improving the livelihoods of local communities and helping farmers gain knowledge and skills in biosecure sow production. It also aims to improve people’s quality of life by exploiting the economic, social and environmental benefits of household-scale biogas projects.”
The first phase of the project was implemented in 2021 with 16 farming households. It provided pigs to farmers whose herds had been devastated by African swine fever, supervising their development and growth in partnership with agricultural and veterinary experts.
The project is part of the social impact program of AES Mong Duong. Since 2012, over 130 initiatives with a total value of VND12 billion have been implemented, focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure. The activities have made a lasting difference and contributed to improving the quality of life of more than 200,000 people in neighboring communities in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.
