On May 13, Olivier Marquette, President of AES Vietnam, attended and delivered a speech at a significant meeting hosted by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with U.S. businesses investing and operating in Vietnam. The event coordinated by the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam saw the participation of Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, and representatives from 50 major U.S. companies currently investing in Vietnam. The discussions focused on various concrete actions to promote balanced and sustainable trade between Vietnam and the United States.
In his address, Mr. Olivier Marquette and other U.S. business representatives praised the Vietnamese government’s efforts to resolve bottlenecks and enhance cooperation and investment between the two countries. The U.S. business community highly appreciates Vietnam’s investment environment, business climate, and reform measures.
Mr. Olivier also elaborated on the impact of tariffs on Vietnam’s growth and energy needs. He emphasized the importance of solutions to reduce the trade imbalance between the two nations, highlighting the role of AES’s LNG projects: “AES projects have the potential to materially help trade imbalance, since they would unlock potential US LNG imports of $600m per year during the 20-year tenor of the Fuel Supply Agreement, and potential US equipment purchase worth $600m.”
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial economic partnership.
