On May 21, Olivier Marquette, President of AES Vietnam, visited Vietnam Electricity (EVN)’s headquarters in Hanoi for an official meeting with EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An. The meeting brought together senior leaders from AES Vietnam and key representatives from EVN, including Vice President Ngo Son Hai and heads of relevant departments.
During the meeting, EVN and AES Vietnam engaged in open and constructive discussions on strengthening cooperation in the development and operation of power projects. The dialogue focused on the Mong Duong 2 BOT thermal power plant, as well as the Son My 2 CCGT power plant and the Son My LNG terminal —two strategic projects central to Vietnam’s energy transition.
EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An highlighted the long-standing partnership between EVN and AES, stating: “We are grateful to work with AES over the years, including on the Mong Duong 2 power plant and Son My projects. We have overcome many challenges together and always supported each other. EVN remains committed to working with AES to accelerate project progress.”
Sharing this view, Mr Olivier Marquette expressed his appreciation for the collaboration and reaffirmed AES’s commitment to Vietnam’s energy goals. “We hope to continue this strong partnership. Our two strategic projects, Son My 2 and Son My Terminal, are highly aligned with Vietnam’s current energy transition goals and also reflect AES’s direction, drawing on our successful LNG project experience in the Dominican Republic and Panama.”
Both parties agreed to maintain regular communication and coordination to address project-related matters and ensure timely progress.
The Mong Duong 2 BOT thermal power plant is a 1,242 MW coal-fired facility operating under a 25-year build-operate-transfer agreement, playing a vital role in Vietnam’s power supply. Meanwhile, the Son My 2 and Son My LNG terminal projects are designed to support the country’s shift toward cleaner energy sources, contributing to national energy security and sustainable development.
