US Ambassador to Vietnam, Daniel J. Kritenbrink presented the 2019 AmCham CSR Award to AES Mong Duong
On October 30, AES Mong Duong received the 2019 AmCham CSR award presented by Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink in the presence of Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Tran Hong Ha. This is the 4th consecutive year AES Mong Duong honored with this prestigious award since 2016.
This year, AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award Program is designed to raise awareness of CSR among AmCham members and the community, and to provide recognition to firms with best CSR practices in Vietnam.
With its continuous efforts to improve local people’s lives, AES Vietnam’s contribution was highly appreciated and recognized by local government as well as the community.
In 2018 and first half of 2019, the Company has invested nearly VND4.0 billion in total 30 CSR projects focused on education, healthcare, environment protection and livelihood improvement. Specific activities included donation of scholarships to disadvantaged children in Cam Pha, Future Energy scholarship for local students in Technical Universities, organization of vocational training courses and continuous education at high-school level for the affected households to support them getting permanent jobs in order to increase their income sustainably.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kevin Pierce, Manager of AES Mong Duong II Thermal Power Plant said: “We are very proud of what AES has been contributing to the development Quang Ninh province and the country. This 4th year recognition by AmCham is definitely a big motivation for us on the journey of making AES Mong Duong one of the most sustainable companies in Vietnam with a long term commitment to local community.”
To qualify for AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award, AES Mong Duong has received high marks in four assessed categories including (1) attention to business objectives and societal needs; (2) creation of long-term economic and social gains; (3) communication and sharing of best practices; and (4) program sustainability.
