Safety comes first at AES, and we work to make this value a reality through our social impact programs. In December 2020, the two-year Electrical Safety project was completed and contributed to improvement of safety conditions and the living standards of local communities in Cam Hai Commune, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province. The electrical systems of 99 low-income households and nine public facilities, including schools and local clinics, were repaired and renovated. Following thorough inspections and assessments by AES technicians, all substandard sockets, electrical lines, light bulbs or appliances at high risk of electric shock were replaced or reinforced to ensure safety for homeowners and users.
As part of the project activity, local people and students were also provided with knowledge on electrical safety through interactive games and quiz, which were organized during our 2019 Values Day. Up to 6,000 new year calendars with guidance about electrical safety were produced and shared with local communities and schools. The knowledge will prove vital in ensuring the safe use of electricity in homes and public facilities in the area.
Overall, this project has benefitted up to 20,000 people living in Mong Duong ward, Cong Hoa and Cam Hai communes.
Mr. Nong Van Xuan, a resident in commune 3, Cam Hai commune, said, “Our family is in a difficult situation, so I cannot pay much attention to improving electrical equipment in our house. We use whatever we have. I was moved and glad when AES staff visited, checked and fixed the electrical system, and also guided me on safe electrical practices.”
Le Sau Dung from the Electrical maintenance team at AES Mong Duong, said, “Electricity is critical to our lives. Thanks to electricity, people can use modern gadgets such as televisions and radios, or even water pumps. They can access the internet and other external sources of information, thus improving their lives. This is what I like about this project and I will be part of it until it ends. I see its significant meaning and I will participate in the new phase next year, if we have one.”
Through these activities, AES Mong Duong demonstrates its commitment to improving lives and making a lasting difference in communities where our business operates. Social initiatives, like those focused on electrical safety, also enable us to build trust and commitment with our local stakeholders and those living around our plant.
