On 12 March 2021, AES Mong Duong Power Company presented 500 COVID-19 test kits – the first batch of 1,000 COVID-19 test kits to Cam Pha Healthcare Center, with the aim to continue supporting the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. The handover ceremony was organized with the presence of representatives of Cam Pha People’s Committee, Cam Pha Fatherland Front, Cam Pha Healthcare Center, AES Mong Duong and other local authorities.
The support package, with a total value of approximately VND650 million, was initiated in response to the current COVID-19 outbreak in Quang Ninh Province. A total of 350 test kits will be used to directly support preventive measures in the fight against COVID-19 in Mong Duong ward, Cong Hoa and Cam Hai Commune in Cam Pha City. The kits are PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests to diagnose the virus from oro- or nasopharyngeal swab specimens.
“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose a threat around the world and in Vietnam, and we need to focus our efforts on tracing suspected cases to isolate them and expanding highly accurate and rapid testing. AES Mong Duong’s donation of COVID-19 test kits helps the city implement more testing to limit the spread of the virus in the community. We would like to acknowledge and thank AES Mong Duong for working with us for the effective prevention of the pandemic in the city,” said Mr. Vu Duc Phan, Director of Cam Pha Healthcare Center.
Mr. Sajjad Rana, Environment, Health and Safety Manager of AES Mong Duong, said, “At AES Mong Duong, we always put safety first. That’s why we are putting major efforts to secure the health of not only our employees and ensure the continuity of our operation but also the safety of the local communities in which we operate. We hope that this donation of 1,000 test kits will address the immediate needs of the local communities in the fight against COVID-19.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, AES Mong Duong has been implementing strict preventive measures to ensure the continuity of its operation and electricity production. “We have requested all employees and contractors to strictly follow the instructions on health and safety measures. In February, we also conducted COVID-19 tests for all employees and all came back negative. We believe that with these efforts, together with the local authorities and communities, we will be able to overcome the difficulties in this period successfully and guarantee the continuous supply of energy to the country,” Mr. Sajjad added.
The donation is part of AES Mong Duong’s continuous support to Quang Ninh Province in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. In early May 2020, the company donated VND500 million to Quang Ninh Red Cross, which was used to improve the preparedness of local communities and related agencies in fighting COVID-19. In June 2020, AES Mong Duong’s Back to School Support program was implemented, benefiting 1,500 local children when they returned to school. The support, worth nearly VND400 million in total, included the renovation of lighting systems, provision of digital equipment and improving hygiene conditions at Mong Duong High School and Nguyen Trai Elementary School in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.
