This is the second year AES Mong Duong granted Energy Career Scholarships to outstanding students from Quang Ninh Province studying power and energy at the two most prestigious Universities in Vietnam namely Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Electric Power University (EPU).
This year, the scholarship granting ceremony was held on the occasion of Vietnam Teacher’s Day on November 19 at Hanoi University of Science and Technology at the presence of Mr. David Stone, Managing Director of AES Mong Duong Power Company, Mr. Nguyen Van Top, Vice Principle of HUST, Ms. To Kim Lien, Director of Center for Education and Development (CED) and 20 scholarship recipients from both universities.
Besides a financial support, each student will benefit from soft-skill trainings including English language, presentation, public speaking and join volunteer activities to support the community where AES Mong Duong 2 Power Plant is located. AES has been investing in school and other education facilities for communities near the Power Plant in order to develop the capacity of current and future local employees.
Addressing at the Ceremony, Mr. David Stone said “In Vietnam, AES provides safe, reliable and sustainable energy to foster the country’s growth. We believe that besides power energy, Vietnam also needs human energy to accelerate the country’s progress. Investing in people and education is a priority in our social investment portfolio. I hope the scholarship and soft-skill trainings that we offer to these outstanding students today shall add fuel for them to work harder at school and further improve personal development to become the owner of Vietnam energy future that AES would be a part of.”
The Energy Career Scholarship program is highly appreciated by Professor and students from the two universities. Do Hong Son, a senior electrical automatic major, Power Institution, HUST, shared in his letter to the Company “The scholarship I received last year from AES Mong Duong has changed my life in a very positive way as I was exposed to new skills and knowledge. This scholarship means a lot to me not only because of the financial support but also the soft-skills including English speaking, PLC software writing that equip me for the future career readiness. I have enjoyed several offsite trainings and activities where I make new friends with whom I commit to build a strong network of Quang Ninh technical engineers. We would contribute to the development of Quang Ninh and Vietnam. I believe the support from the Company to us today would soon make it way to strengthen foundation for Vietnam energy progress”
