On 28 August 2019 – AES Mong Duong Power Co., Ltd coordinated with Quang Ninh Organization for Disadvantaged Children and Mong Duong People Committee to present 170 scholarships to children from low-income families. The children are from five wards and communes of Cam Pha city including Mong Duong, Cam Hai, Cong Hoa, Cua Ong and Duong Huy. This is the third year the Company implement the scholarship program to support disadvantaged children living in surrounding areas of Mong Duong 2 Power Plant in order to support a part of the school expenses for them at the beginning of the new school year.
This VND204 million education program (170 scholarships of VND 1,200,000 each) is part of the Company’s CSR initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, livelihood restoration and environment protection for the local communities of Mong Duong 2 Power Plant. Since its establishment, the Company has invested approximately VND10 billion on community development programs that provide positive impacts to every school, clinic as well as overall infrastructure of the area.
The Ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Dinh Ngoc Chien – Vice Chairman of Cam Pha People Committee, leaders from Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Training and Education, Mr. Truong Manh Hung – Director of Quang Ninh Organization for Disadvantaged Children, Mr. Kevin Pierce – Plant Manager of Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Plant, other leaders of the Plant, leaders of communes, scholarship recipients, their teacher and parents.
Addressing at the Ceremony, Mr. Kevin Pierce, Power Plant Manager, said: “Along with operating the Power Plant sustainably, we committed to invest in improving live for the communities where we operate. Education is always one of the top priorities of the Company’s CSR program as it is an important factor to improve the living standards and ensure sustainable development of the communities. We expect to expand this program in coming years to increase the number of the beneficiaries so that more disadvantaged children will receive better support in the future.”
The scholarship aims at motivating children to advance their study and help their parent to cover part of the educational costs. This program received high appreciation from local authorities and as said by Mr. Dinh Ngoc Chien, Vice Chairman of Cam Pha People Committee that “The Company has contributed significantly to the education improvement of the city during the last years and we expect to continue to cooperate with you in the future so that our children, especially the disadvantaged ones, will receive better supports.”
