Mr. Kevin Pierce, the Power Plant Manager, recognized students and teachers for their great effort in the first semester of 2017-2018 academic year
Since September 2016, AES Mong Duong has been providing financial support to 23 students who are members of affected households of Ash pond 2 Project for their high school Continuous Education Program. The average age of the students is 25 years old. The Program is conducted by Occupational Continuous Education & Training Center of Cam Pha city, under the scope of AES Mong Duong’s Livelihood Restoration Program. This Continuous Education Program was designed to support the students to earn their high school degree, one of the critical fundamentals for young people to have access to stable career in the future. This was among several efforts made by AES Mong Duong to help local people to diversify their income sources and to move from land-based jobs to wage-based job which would enable them to improve their living standard and livelihood once the land is no longer abundance in local area.
So far, the program has accomplished certain achievements including 100% of the students completed the first year of high school education and joined the second year of the Program. To encourage the students to work harder in their study, on 24 February 2018, The Power Plant Manager, Mr. Kevin Pierce met and recognized students and teachers with great effort during the first semester of the school year.
Together with many other education projects, the Continuous Education Program has brought in significant change to the perception on education among local communities. They now understand the investment in education is the most valuable investment for their future. Young people are more prepared for a better access to skilled job rather than non-skilled jobs as before. Many of them managed to have stable jobs at the Power Plant. As of 31 January 2018, there are 112 people from Mong Duong ward, 74 people from Cong Hoa commune and 27 people from Cam Hai commune working for the Power Plant under AES Mong Duong, contractors and third-party service providers, which accounted for 33.43% of total Vietnamese workforce.
