AES Mong Duong Highlights Safety Commitment at Safety Day 2024
AES Mong Duong celebrated its Values Day 2024 on November 7, 2023, at the Cam Hai Elementary and Secondary School in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.
The event attracted over 300 attendees, comprising local officials and associations, Cam Hai Elementary and Secondary School teachers and students, and AES Mong Duong representatives.
Values Day represents an annual effort by AES Corporation to reinforce the company’s core values of ‘Safety First’, ‘Highest Standards’ and ‘All Together’, while demonstrating its commitment to the communities in which it operates.
With a focus on AES’s core values and this year’s theme “Doing the Right Thing”, the event launched AES’s CSR initiative, the “Environment Education and Integrated Waste Management” project in Hai Hoa Commune, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.
The initiative encompasses a program to raise awareness among local students and residents about waste classification and recycling. It also includes providing models of organic waste for biological fertilizer recycling to 50 local households and establishing an organic garden at Cam Hai Primary & Elementary School to assist practical STEM education in biology, waste treatment, and sustainable development.
Via this initiative, AES Mong Duong is taking steps to improve environmental education by incorporating waste classification and recycling into the curriculum, fostering a sense of environmental awareness in students from an early age. It also encourages community involvement by engaging local households in organic waste recycling, cultivating a sense of accountability for sustainable practices. Furthermore, it fosters sustainable agriculture via the organic garden at Cam Hai Elementary & Secondary School, offering practical learning experiences and encouraging eco-friendly practices. The initiative fosters innovation and creativity through competitions and hands-on activities, inspiring students to creatively address environmental challenges. Moreover, it reinforces the Company’s dedication to fostering sustainable local socio-economic development and enhancing the quality of life of local people.

AES Mong Duong would not have been able to operate affordably and reliably over the years without the support of the local government, organizations and communities. Adhering to our core principles, we always put safety first, ensuring the highest standards in operations and in community support activities. Finally, I would like to emphasize the principle of all together, we always appreciate the support of local authorities at all levels, especially the enthusiastic support of Cam Hai commune, now Hai Hoa commune, which has contributed significantly to the success of AES Mong Duong in Quang Ninh,” stated Mr. Johnny Tanis, Plant Manager of Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant.
Representing the local government, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, a member of the Standing Committee and Head of the City Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Commission, as well as Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Cam Pha City, expressed her delight in attending the AES Mong Duong Values Day for the first time alongside the residents of Hai Hoa commune. She stated: “We recognize that the program was organized by the Company with a strong emphasis on safety and unity, fostering collaboration not just among employees but also with the Party Committee, the government, and the community, all aimed at achieving optimal work efficiency. Since AES Mong Duong began its operations, the local community, particularly underprivileged families and students, has benefited significantly from the generous assistance provided by the Company and its staff, encompassing both human and material resources. The Company’s role in enhancing security, maintaining order, ensuring social safety, and advancing social security in the community is recognized and appreciated. In the near future, we anticipate that the Company will fulfill its production and business objectives in alignment with established values, attain significant efficiency, and enhance the cultural quality of the people of Cam Pha”.
The highlight of the event was the Values Day Award, honoring an exceptional member of AES Mong Duong who has truly embodied the AES Values throughout their tenure at AES in 2024. This year’s recognition was awarded to Ms Dao Thuy Ninh, Buyer Officer at the Mong Duong 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant.
“Since 2013, when I first attended the Values Day, I have dreamed of the moment I would take the stage to accept this esteemed award. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the managers for their guidance, support, and motivation towards all employees, including myself, in successfully completing our assigned tasks. I want to express my gratitude to my colleagues from various departments who have consistently collaborated and provided their unwavering support in my work, especially my teammates in the Supply Chain Management Department. Ultimately, without the support of others, this award would not have been possible for me. I truly appreciate everyone once more”, Ms. Dao Thuy Ninh stated.
Since 2012, AES Mong Duong has rolled out more than 160 initiatives aimed at social impact, concentrating on four key areas: Health, Education, Livelihoods, and Infrastructure. These initiatives have created enduring advantages and enhanced the quality of life for over 200,000 people in surrounding communities in Vietnam.
