Olivier Marquette Joins Forum Celebrating 30 Years of Vietnam–U.S. Relations
AES Vietnam held its Values Day 2023 celebration on November 9, 2023, at the Mong Duong Secondary School in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.
The event saw the attendance of more than 300 people, including local authorities, teachers and students from Mong Duong secondary school, and leaders as well as staff of AES Vietnam.
Values Day is an annual initiative by AES Corporation, aiming to reinforce the company’s core values of ‘Safety First’, ‘Highest Standards’ and ‘All Together’, and to demonstrate its commitment to the communities in which it operates. As part of the event, AES Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Mong Duong Secondary School on the implementation of the STEM education program for the 2023-2024 school year. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a key driver of innovation and sustainable development in the 21st century.
AES Vietnam has partnered with the school to provide a one-year STEM program, which consists of 16 STEM lessons, various STEM-related activities, and two STEM festivals. The program has benefited more than 125 students and teachers, enhancing their understanding and awareness.
On Values Day 2023, AES Vietnam also organized a STEM festival, which featured various interactive booths, games, and experiments. AES staff and students also created several STEM models, which were showcased on the day of the festival.
The purpose of these activities is to support the local education system and to foster a culture of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration among the students and teachers. With these initiatives, AES Vietnam is proactively translating its AES Values into activities that positively impact and improve lives in local communities.

Education is the key to unlocking the true potential of every community,” said Mr. Joseph Uddo, President, AES Vietnam. “I also would like to take this chance to recognize the hard work and dedication of our AES people. We will continue our work to promote our AES Values in both our business, providing much-needed electricity to Vietnam, and in our social mandate to the local communities in which we operate,” he added.
An important element of the event was the Values Day Award, which recognizes an outstanding member of AES Mong Duong, who has exemplified the AES Values during his/her work at AES in 2023. The honour this year was given to Nguyen Xuan Dieu, BOP Operations Team Leader – Mong Duong 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant.
“The Values Award is a recognition and an opportunity for all employees to continuously work and promote AES’ values. I am honored to be selected for this prize. At AES, respecting and complying with the Values: Safety first – Highest standards – All together, have created the conditions for me to have the opportunity to develop my full potential and devote myself to the work of developing the company activities as well as supporting sustainable local development. I believe that, by spreading AES Values from the company to the community, we will always be a united group and together accelerate the future of the energy industry in Vietnam,” Dieu said.
Since 2012, over 130 social impact initiatives have been implemented by AES, focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure. The activities have made a long-lasting benefit and contributed to improving the quality of life of more than 200,000 people in neighboring communities in Vietnam.
