The international certification is expected to empower the company to boost its operational excellence by managing physical assets efficiently
Hanoi, 25 May 2020 – AES Mong Duong was awarded the ISO 55001:2014 Certification by Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS – UK Branch for the asset management system of the 1,200 MW Mong Duong 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. With this certificate, AES Mong Duong becomes one of the first companies in the country to be recognized for its effective asset management system.
First published in January 2014, ISO 55001 establishes specific requirements for not only implementing and maintaining an asset, but also improving that asset via an Asset Management System (AMS). Identifying assets, what a company wants to achieve with them and how to get there, requires in-depth knowledge of the asset in question, which can help in operational decision-making and an organization’s overall performance. The AMS could also help manage and mitigate risks, whilst benchmarking performance across all sectors.
“Asset management is about knowing what we want to achieve with an asset and how to make it happen, in addition to assessing risks associated with that asset. It is about having a long-term strategy. Thus, receiving ISO 55001:2014 Certification is a significant milestone for us, as it helps to set up the processes for managing our assets efficiently and boost our operational excellence. I am proud of the achievement and the team’s hard work to obtain the certification,” said Kevin Pierce, Plant Manager.
The certification is the outcome of a two-year process, in which the company has conducted various initiatives, including planning and documentation of assets and operational data following ISO 55001 standards.
“We have to take it step by step. Firstly, we developed the team’s knowledge and capacity regarding the certification, as well as new operation and maintenance practices. Later, after the documentation, it has also taken a lot of time and effort to develop a team of certified internal auditors within the Plant’s personnel to conduct the internal audit of the asset management system, identify and close the gaps prior to the third-party certification audit,” said Nadessan Sandirasegaran, Maintenance Manager.
The whole ISO certification process has been completed with the dedication of the asset management team which includes members from various departments, and the commitment of leadership. The certification is valid for the next three years and now AES Mong Duong will work to maintain the ISO standard requirements in the routine and non-routine operation and maintenance practices, in order to retain the ISO 55001 certificate in the coming years.
