AES Mong Duong has been awarded the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Medal for an eighth consecutive year, in recognition of its practices and achievements in maintaining world-class safety standards in overall health and safety performance, policies and procedures.
The award is well-deserved recognition for efforts in ensuring safety and maintaining the health of employees amid the Covid-19 pandemic. 2021 was another tough year as the Covid-19 pandemic. Strictly following a strategy to keep the workforce safe and healthy for smooth and continuous operations, AES Mong Duong continued the prevention and response program following the guidelines of Vietnamese authorities together with AES Corp to mitigate the risk of exposure and spread of Covid-19 in the workplace. In 2021, a total of 9,400 tests (RT PCR and Rapid tests) were performed. The company also actively deployed a vaccination campaign for employees. Up to 99.6% of employees and 98.8% of contractors are fully vaccinated and 88% of each affiliation has received booster shots. The plan for isolation and treatment of F0 cases at the plant was developed to support good care of the workforce when infected.

Amid limitations due to the pandemic, AES Mong Duong organized practical safety measures with Safety Walks, Safety Observations and Safety Inspections. Moreover, out of a total of about 1.77 million manhours at the plant, 22,705 hours were spent on safety training refresher courses and orientations for newcomers, covering more than 28 topics. In 2021, the factory completed more than 570,000 hours of overhaul and maintenance out of a total of more than 1.7 million manhours without any LTI (Lost time incident).
“Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic affected all aspects of the economy and society in Vietnam in general and AES Mong Duong in particular. We have gone to great lengths to always put safety first in everything we do. The RoSPA Award is a noble recognition of our efforts over the years,” said Nguyen Xuan Lap, EHS&S Team leader.

Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running H&S industry awards.
