Quang Ninh, 27 August 2021, AES Mong Duong, a subsidiary of AES Vietnam, has donated VND500 million to Vietnam’s national COVID-19 Vaccine Fund, with the aim of supporting and accelerating the purchase and administration of vaccines against the novel coronavirus in Vietnam. The hand-over ceremony was held at the Quang Ninh Fatherland Front office, with the attendance of representatives from Quang Ninh People’s Committee, Quang Ninh Fatherland Front and AES Mong Duong.
The donation forms part of the company’s efforts to support the Vietnamese government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. As a responsible business contributing to economic growth and social security in Vietnam, AES Mong Duong Power Co. Ltd is committed to supporting the community through our social impact activities for almost 10 years accompanying the development of in neighboring communities.
In 2020 and 2021, AES Mong Duong has contributed more than VND 1 billion to support COVID-19 relief efforts, including VND500 million to the COVID-19 Prevention and Fighting Fund of Quang Ninh Province and 1,000 COVID-19 test kits to Cam Pha Health Center, worth a total of VND650 million.
On behalf of Quang Ninh Fatherland Front, Mr. Hoang Duc Hanh, Vice President, Quang Ninh Fatherland Front expressed appreciation for the meaningful support from AES Mong Duong. “The donation of VND500 million to the Vaccine Fund provides great support for Quang Ninh Province in its determination and resilience to maintain safe “green” areas and follow the motto of “Safe – Stable, develop in the new normal”. On behalf of Quang Ninh Fatherland Front, I would like to thank AES Mong Duong for this noble support.,” Mr. Hanh said.
Speaking about this initiative, Mr Johnny Tanis, Plant manager, AES Mong Duong said: “AES Mong Duong highly appreciates the efforts of the Vietnamese government in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to contribute to administering free vaccines to all people in order to achieve herd immunity and return life to normal as well as stabilizing the local economy. With this contribution, AES Mong Duong would like to reaffirm our commitment to providing resources to support Vietnam and the community in the fight against COVID-19.”
As one of Vietnam’s first and largest Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) coal-fired power plants, since its COD in 2015, Mong Duong 2 has played a key role in providing electricity which fuels local economic and social development in Vietnam. Despite the pandemic, in the first six months of 2021, AES Mong Duong has safely and reliably provided more than 4.4 billion kWh of energy to sustain Vietnam’s continuing growth.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has strictly followed pandemic prevention guidelines issued by Vietnamese authorities at both central and provincial levels, including those from competent authorities in Quang Ninh Province to control and prevent the spread of the virus at both our plant and in our local communities.
