Quang Ninh, 14 July 2021.
For the seventh consecutive year, AES Mong Duong has been awarded the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Medal in recognition of its practices and achievements in maintaining world-class safety standards in overall health and safety performance, policies and procedures.
RoSPA is one of the most renowned names in health and safety, and their internationally-recognized awards for demonstrating high health and safety standards are highly sought after. The annual awards scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) honors attainments in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
The award has a great meaning for AES Mong Duong, recognizing the company’s efforts in ensuring safety in the work environment.
Amid limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as restrictions on activities and social distancing, AES Mong Duong organized practical safety measures with Safety Walks and Safety Observations. Moreover, out of a total of about 1.7 million manhours at the plant, 26,133 hours were spent on safety training, covering more than 28 topics, including updates on COVID-19. The training activities contributed significantly to the formation of the company’s strong safety culture.
Mr. Johnny Tanis, AES Mong Duong’s Plant Manager, said, “To receive the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award is something we are very proud of and is testament to everyone at AES Mong Duong for their commitment to safety. Keeping our staff safe is always our absolute priority, as ‘Safety First’ is at the core of everything we do, with our employees, customers and stakeholders following that ethos. Our senior leadership team, office staff and contractors all play their part in helping us to continually achieve these high standards.”
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, AES Mon Duong undertook a number of activities in health and safety work. Many preventive measures were implemented, including setting up 110 sets of partitions for office desks and dining tables; carrying out regular disinfection; equipping employees with 3,000 face masks; and conducting more than 10,000 medical declarations and screenings. In addition, the company also strengthened communication, by installing 100 signs and notices on COVID-19 prevention, and providing regular updates on the pandemic via email and at monthly safety meetings.
“Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we at AES Mong Duong have discovered new ways of working in our plants and from home, always putting physical, mental and digital safety first to keep the lights on in our communities,” said Mr. Sajjad Rana, Manager of the Environment, Health and Safety Department.
Established in 1956, the majority of RoSPA awards are non-competitive and mark achievements at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Organizations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognized as being world-leaders in health and safety practices. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running health and safety industry awards.
