AES Mong Duong APEX 2025: Celebrating Innovation and Excellence
In 2017, AES Mong Duong presented AES Mong Duong Energy Career Scholarship to 20 outstanding students from Quang Ninh majoring in power and energy at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Electric Power University (EPU). Besides the $600/student/year, all scholarship recipients also receive technical and soft-skill training to improve themselves in pursuing career in energy.
As part of the Scholarship Program, the scholarship recipients took a site visit to Mong Duong 2 Power Plant to learn the technology and operation standards of a world class Power Plant. In two days, 05-06 March, 15 students and 5 teachers and of HUST and EPU together have visited and experienced the Mong Duong 2 Power Plant. All the students have hometown in Quang Ninh and have successfully demonstrated their enthusiasm for the energy field.
The students were well hosted by representatives from various department, including Mr. Quang and Mr. Hung from Engineer, Mr. Cong from EHS, Ms. Huyen from HR, Mr. Ninh and Ms. Ha from Stakeholders Management. Besides receiving Safety Training to prepare for the Plant facility tour, the students also learn about the technology and environment protection measures as well as potential career at AES Mong Duong and social development investment of the Company to improve living condition of local people.
Like other students, Ta Manh Tuyen, from HUST, was very impressed with the fact that there were only 5 people in the Center Control Room on each shift to control all the equipment of the power plant. “Everything was automated. The engineers were also very enthusiastic in sharing their experience and answering our questions. It was very helpful to us”, Tuyen shared.
Le Trung Son, student from EPU, shared “After talking with the experts at the power plant, I feel that I still have a very long way to master myself because the real-life technology is much more advanced than what I’ve learnt in the university”
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung, the project engineer, led the group to visit the power plant while introducing to them all the major areas such as Center Control Room, Cooling water output area, Steam Turbine Area, Jetty Area.
The students and teachers have also had a chance to meet with senior leaders of the Power Plant. Mr. Kevin Pierce, Power Plant Manager, shared his thoughts and passion for working at a Power Plant and talked about one of the important culture being promoted at Mong Duong 2 Plant is “Having fun through work”. He wished the students to be able to find passion in their future job and hope that this visit would be an encouraging source for student to strive harder for their future career in the energy sector.
After the trip, The students as well as the teachers of both universities had many unforgettable memories with the AES Mong Duong staffs and managers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, professor of EPU, shared “This visit is very fruitful for the students. I hope that in the near future, we will have more opportunity to cooperate with CED and AES Mong Duong in organizing more field trip like this for other the students.”
