On 8 December, 2020, AES Mong Duong, a subsidiary of AES Vietnam, was honored to receive the 2020 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award from the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham Hanoi) for its CSR efforts in general and specifically its initiatives to assist communities in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The award was presented by H. E. Daniel J. Kritenbrink, US Ambassador to Vietnam, in the presence of representatives of local governments and company members of AmCham Hanoi.
This is the fifth consecutive year AES Mong Duong has won AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award. The company’s CSR program has received high marks in four categories, including attention to business objectives and societal needs; creation of long-term economic and social gains; communication and the sharing of best practice; and program sustainability.
In 2020, AES Mong Duong invested more than VND2 billion in 10 CSR projects, focusing on education, healthcare and safety, and the development of livelihoods. In April 2020, the company donated VND500 million to Quang Ninh Red Cross Society with the aim of supporting the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. In June 2020, the company also announced its Back to School Support CSR program after the COVID-19 pandemic, which benefitted 1,500 students at the Mong Duong High School and Nguyen Trai Elementary School in Cam Pha City.
Mr. David Stone, CEO of AES Mong Duong, said, “We are delighted and proud to receive AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award and we see this as testament to our long-term commitment to the sustainable development of Vietnam. The award is an encouragement and inspiration for us to further accelerate our CSR initiatives in the future.”
Established in 2015, AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award is designed to raise awareness about CSR among AmCham members and the community, as well as to provide recognition to companies with the country’s best CSR programs. This year, the award recognized 32 US companies for demonstrating the link between business operations and society and who conduct business in a way that creates both long-term economic and social values in Vietnam.
