On 7-8 July, 2022, students awarded ‘AES Future Energy Scholarship’ and lecturers from three universities, namely the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Electric Power University and Hanoi University of Science – Vietnam National University, joined a visit to the Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant.
Over two days of touring the plant, the students and lecturers gained useful practical experience through introduction to the safety process, technology for emissions treatment and ensuring environmental protection, wastewater discharge technology and basic operating procedures of the power plant.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry at Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, said, “This visit is not only useful for students but also for lecturers like us as it is an opportunity for us to gain valuable and practical insight into the operation of a thermal power plant.”
Dang Thai Binh, a student at Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, said he felt fortunate to be awarded an AES scholarship and chosen to participate in this field trip. Ha Minh Son, a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, shared the same thoughts and said this visit provided motivation for him to study and do further research in the future.
The site tour is part of the annual AES Future Energy Scholarship program, which has been implemented by AES Việt Nam since 2017. The program is specially designed to reduce the financial burden, provide career orientations and enhance soft skills for local students, with the aim to develop a highly-skilled workforce for Vietnam’s energy sector.
On behalf of the plant, Mr. Johnny Tanis, Plant Manager, said, “We are very pleased to welcome the students and lecturers to the Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant. Developing human resources from the local workforce is one of the key goals that we are pursuing in Vietnam. I hope that this visit further motivates students to study and gives them insight and inspiration for their future career path in the energy industry.”
