AES Vietnam President Meets with EVN Leadership to Advance Strategic Energy Projects
Mr. David Stone, Managing Director of AES Mong Duong Power Company Limited (the “AES Mong Duong”), the Owner of Mong Duong 2 BOT Coal-fired Power Plant Project (“MD2 Project”) has been elected a member of the Executive Board of Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (“VCBSD”) for the 2015-2016 Term. VBCSD is a Vietnamese business-led organization and strives for excellence in sustainable development. The Council is a member-driven organization whose aim is to encourage the Council members and the business community to participate and contribute to sustainable development. Being a business platform for sustainable development, the VBCSD shall continually promote the best business practices and apply ecologically efficient, environmentally friendly international business standards.
The MD2 Project with 2 units and total gross capacity of 1,240 MW is currently under construction in Mong Duong Ward, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province. The total investment for the MD2 Project is approximately $US 2 billion. The MD2 Project is implemented under the Build – Operate – Transfer (“BOT”) scheme with the Ministry of Industry & Trade. The MD2 Project is the largest BOT Project in Vietnam which utilizes pulverized coal-fired boiler technology with advanced state of the art environmental controls to not only increase reliability but meet local Vietnamese and international standards in order to minimize the impact to the environment.
AES Mong Duong focuses on providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions, as well as making a lasting difference in the communities they serve. The MD2 Project is one of only a limited number of plants in Vietnam with international financing and associated designs meeting both Vietnam and international environmental, health and safety standards.
Honoring Commitments is a key value of AES Mong Duong which includes meeting or exceeding all of their commitments to the environment as well as the communities in which they serve. The company has developed a robust corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) program that engages the community leading to the development of key initiatives and projects to improve the livelihood and the environment in the communities. Some of the initiatives to date include significant investment in the upgrades to medical and educational facilities and targeted environmental projects. AES Mong Duong is also very engaged in educating the community through site visits and community outreach programs such as safety and values days at local schools.
The environmental, health and safety achievements of the MD2 Project continue to be recognized internally and externally such as the prestigious Silver Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, the Golden Hardhat Award by the AES Corporation, the Certificate of Recognition for its commitments for a Vietnam green environment 2014, the Green Brand 2014 and the Green Energy Certificate from Vietnam Ministry of Investment and Planning.
With the achievements to date, AES Mong Duong has shown its commitments and dedication for sustainability development and being a part of VCBSD’s Executive Board, Mr. David Stone, on behalf of AES Mong Duong will continue to support and collaborate with other members and its partners to enlarge the sustainability strategy and actions in Vietnam.
